Guests at Akin
Thank you for your interest in visiting Akin! We’re excited to welcome you to the community and look forward to hosting a safe space where your creativity and practice can flourish! In order to provide safe studio space, we expect that all guests in our spaces follow Akin’s Code of Conduct and Health and Safety Guidelines.
Each Akin location has studio-specific policies for guest access according to what seems most suitable for that location. Akin Studio Managers are responsible for informing Akin members about the studio-specific guest access policies and procedures. If you are an Akin studio member and you are not certain about the additional guest access rules based on your location please contact your Studio Manager directly with questions about having guests.
The Akin Guest Policy is outlined below:
The host member artist is responsible for informing the guest of studio policies, including Akin’s Code of Conduct and Health and Safety Policy. The host member is responsible for ensuring these are followed by their guest at all times.
Guests must be supervised at all times by the host member, they cannot be left alone in the studio.
Guests cannot be given the door codes for the studios, or have copies of the key made.
Guests must avoid entering other members' studios, touching their belongings, and disrupting others while they work.

Can I have guests in my studio space?
Guests are welcome at Akin, as long as you follow the studio-specific guest access protocols as outlined by your Studio Manager. In some cases this means that your guest must be approved ahead of time or other restrictions. Please ask your Studio Manager for more information about your studio location. Your guest must follow Akin’s Code of Conduct and Health and Safety Guidelines. Responsibility for the conduct of each guest lies with the host studio member.
What priority will be given with regard to guests and visitors accessing the space, and are there restrictions?
Priority will be given to visits that support professional development and accessibility needs ie: Client/Gallery studio viewings, pick-up of work, and other necessary engagements related to your Akin membership. Some of our studios have restrictions on the number of guests you can have, or the length of time your guest is allowed to stay. Please ask your Studio Manager for more information about your studio location.
What happens if guidelines are disregarded by the guest?
Members who host a guest that disregard these guidelines may face consequences including a temporary ban from inviting guests into the studio or, depending on the severity of the incident, face other restrictions determined on a case-by-case Conflict Resolution process.You can refer to our guidelines on Conflict Resolution here.
What are the adjustments on Akin’s COVID-19 Safety Policies?
Akin’s future plans for changes within our COVID-19 Safety Protocols will prioritize the safe usage of its spaces, with flexibility and adaptive responses particular to our organization’s needs and member environment. Accordingly, we’d also like to remind members that our policies may revert back to previous modes depending on the situation with COVID-19 and recommendations from public health authorities. We will continue to remain vigilant and responsive to reports or complaints about people who are not complying with our Studio Protocols.
