Expressive Arts Therapy Training Program and Low Cost Expressive Art Therapy Clinic from The CREATE Institute
The CREATE Institute is a training institute in intermodal expressive arts therapy. Expressive arts therapy is a way of using the arts to help people with a variety of challenges; whether they be psychological, emotional, behavioural, or associated with life traumas, relationships or transitions. Expressive arts therapy assumes that everyone has the capacity to respond creatively to the situations that they find themselves in. By engaging in play and the arts, we are taken into the world of the imagination, where possibilities can be seen that are not evident in our daily lives. The CREATE Institute believes that when we make art together, whether in the therapy office, the clinic or the community, something new emerges in the world. Through that creation, we can find resources that we did not know we had and possible solutions that were previously hidden from us.
The Create Institute Expressive Arts training program provides a theoretical basis in the field of Expressive Arts Therapy, while familiarizing students with those elements of therapeutic practice common to all approaches. As well as theory, they emphasize experiential learning, in which students are encouraged to explore the different dimensions of artistic practice in community and in individual studio work.
The CREATE Institute also offers low cost expressive arts therapy through The CREATE Clinic to children, youth, adults, couples and families from diverse backgrounds. No previous therapy or artistic experience is required. The student therapy clinic operates from the core principles and theory of expressive arts therapy taught at The Create Institute, which includes using play and imagination to support one’s life struggles. Through visual art, movement, music, theatre, poetry and story telling new possibilities emerge and clients gain awareness of how their resources allow them to overcome obstacles.
