Call for Artists - Articulations' CURIO Shadow Box Show

ARTiculations is seeking submissions for our 5th annual open call exhibition, CURIO Shadow Box Show. Explore how the shadow box format can present a good challenge for your art practice in this unique and popular group show. Paintings, photographs, drawings, ceramic, wood and mixed media—all mediums are welcome with just one stipulation - it has to fit inside the shadow box provided. By participating in this fun exhibition, artists will enjoy the opportunity to engage with other artists, curators, collectors and the general public.

2017 Thesis Award Show: 'Accumulations' new work by Jill Smith at ARTiculations

Jill Smith’s recent body of work, Accumulations, explores the construction and decoration of environments, and how we engage with spaces both real and otherwise- often nonsensical, curious places. Smith not only explores the relationship between various objects in a scene, often rooted in domesticity or referencing still lives, but what it also means to provide a window into another setting through a practice involving sculpture, screen printing and more. Bodily, charming, playful and whimsical the artist takes us to another place- one that is strange yet somehow personal and familiar, odd yet somehow comforting.

The Thesis Award Show is a collaboration between ARTiculations, Graven Feather Studio and Akin Collective in support of graduating post secondary students. In spring 2017 a call was sent out across the Province for applications in search of students demonstrating a coherent body of work unique in both concept and execution. Overwhelmed by the response, we extend a huge thank you to all of the applicants and congratulate this year’s winners, Jill Smith and Kimberly Danielson for their achievements. In addition to solo exhibitions, Smith and Danielson each received a one week print residency with Graven Feather, and a studio credit with Akin Collective as part of the award.

Thesis Award Winners

Congratulations to Annunziata Morant and Jennifer Byrnes, the recipients of our first annual student Thesis Award, a collaboration between ARTiculations, Graven Feather and AKIN Collective!

Annunziata and Jennifer will both receive two week solo exhibitions in addition to credit for studio. ARTICULATIONS 2015 Sketchbook Challenge

2015 FILLER UP SKETCHBOOK CHALLENGE Registration Fee: $ 5.00 CAD THE CHALLENGE : March 1st-31st, 2015 Art making solidarity to get you through the winter slump! We’re back again for a fourth year to challenge you to get back in ‘sketchbook shape’ with us! Fill up your unfinished sketchbooks. Start sketching. Start painting. Start writing. Start making time for yourself to do anything that YOU choose to be your creative outlet.  And do it every day. Every. Day. How to participate: 1. REGISTER ONLINE. The challenge starts March 1st but don’t worry, we’ll remind you! 2. But why wait until March? Start sketching now! Make use of those half filled sketchbooks you have sitting around.  Beginning March 1st, we’ll post ideas, encouragement and pictures of your progress. 3. Drop off your sketchbook before 5pm on Friday April 3rd, 2015. Indicate a viewing format for your sketchbook: 1. Viewers can look through the entire sketchbook OR 2. Indicate a specific page to be open for display. 4. Become very inspired and feel the amazing effects of making sketching part of your daily life.   FILL’ER UP Group Exhibition in The Earl Selkirk Gallery DATES TBA By signing up, you are automatically included in the FILL’ER UP group exhibition.
