What: The 58th Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF): Canada’s largest and longest-running juried outdoor art fair.

When: July 12-14, 2019

Where: Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto

Who can apply: Individual visual artists from anywhere in the world and makers working in an array of mediums, at any stage of their careers with formal or informal training.

Deadline to apply: March 6, 2019

What: John B. Aird Gallery is seeking works from 5 to 8 emerging artists that deal with themes of displacement, home, and migration. They are also open to artists wishing to do performance art in the space. They are committed to paying exhibition and royalty fees in accordance with the CARFAC 2019 Minimum Fee Schedule.

When: February 26 - March 22, 2019

What: ArtReach 2019 Granting Program with support of the Toronto Arts Council is distributing $300,000 in grants to youth arts projects in that foster youth engagement and provide high quality arts opportunities.

When: 2019

Where: Toronto

Who can apply: Youth ages 13-29 in Toronto (individual artists, and organizations/collectives). New and emerging art forms will be considered, and are encouraged.

Deadline to apply: February 1, 2019

What: Burlington Royal Arts Academy seeing workshop instructors for visual arts programming for general artists ages 12 and up. Pays $300. Supplies provided (if simple) by the artist with funds for supply purchase if required.

What: Gallery 1313, an artist run centre and a charitable not for profit organization has a number of calls for submission for planned exhibitions as well as a few slots for proposed exhibitions.

When: Winter Emerging Artists Exhibition: January 2-13, 2019 / The Portrait Exhibit: January 2-13 2019 / The Sex Show: February 13-24, 2019

Where: Gallery 1313, Toronto

Who can apply: Visual artists. The Gallery has some video equipment for video presentation.

Deadline to apply: Winter Emerging Artists Exhibition: December 21, 2018 / The Portrait Exhibit: December 21, 2018 / The Sex Show: February 1, 2019

Fee: Artists that are selected will pay an admin fee of $50 per accepted work.

How to apply: Artists are asked to submit via email to director@g1313.org. Artists should send a current CV, an artist statement , 3-5 jpegs (no larger than 700kb) and an image list with titles, sizes, and mediums. The artist is responsible for delivery of the art works and any shipping costs.

What: The Ontario Science Centre is seeking artists and makers to create two sculptures with kinetic elements themed on the following topics: ‘Boredom’ and ‘Emotional baggage’. You can submit an application to create one or both sculptures. A fee of $18,000 will be paid to the artist or artist collective for each of the two sculptures. An additional supplies fee of $2,000 is also available for each sculpture.

When: These kinetic sculptures will be part of a travelling exhibition, The Mind, which will open at the Ontario Science Centre (accessible venue) in August 2019 for 6 months and then travel across North America for approximately five years.

Where: Travelling international exhibition starting at the Ontario Science Centre.

Who can apply: This call is open to artists, makers, artist collectives, and innovative entrepreneurs and groups/collectives.

Deadline to apply: January 7, 2019

How to apply: Submit application by email to Rich.Vieira@osc.on.ca or send by courier to the Ontario Science Centre.

What: The Salt Spring National Art Prize is a biennial competition and exhibition of Canadian visual art. Approximately 50 finalists will be selected from across Canada to participate in the Finalists’ Exhibition on Salt Spring Island. Finalists may be selected to win one of nine awards, totalling $40,000. All finalists will be featured with their entries in a professional exhibition catalogue. All finalists’ works will be available for purchase during the exhibition.

When: Exhibition September 21 through October 21, 2019. The Gala Awards Night will be on October 19, 2019.

Where: Salt Spring Island

Who can apply: Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who are eighteen years of age and older as of January 1, 2018 are invited to submit their two- and three-dimensional work for consideration. 

Deadline to apply: Online Submissions open Jan 10 - May 31, 2019

WINIFRED SHANTZ AWARD FOR CERAMICS & RBC AWARD FOR GLASS: 10K

$10,000 Awards for Emerging Ceramic and Glass Artists!
Are you an emerging artist? Do you want to develop your artistic practice? We have two opportunities for you!

The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery is calling for submissions to the 2015 RBC Award for Glass and Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics.

These prestigious national awards allow practising early career ceramic and glass artists to undertake a period of independent research, or other activities that advance their artistic and professional practice. The winner of each Award will receive $10,000. The selection is made by a jury comprised of respected contemporary glass and ceramic artists and other arts professionals. Winners will be celebrated and the awards presented at a gala event in Waterloo Ontario on November 14, 2015.

To be eligible for the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics or the RBC Award for Glass, artists must be Canadian citizens or have Permanent Resident status. They must have developed skills through training and/or practice in the field (not necessarily in academic institutions) and be recognized by other artists working in the same artistic tradition. Successful candidates seek payment for their work and actively practice their art. All applicants have maintained a professional practice for no more than 10 years prior to the date of application.

About the Awards:

The RBC Award for Glass is supported by RBC as part of the RBC Emerging Artists Project. The Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics is supported by the Keith and Winifred Shantz Fund for the Arts, held at The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation.

Past recipients of both awards truly represent the best of the emerging ceramic and glass artists in Canada. Christopher Reid Flock of Hamilton, Ontario was the winner of the 2014 Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics. Cheryl Wilson Smith of Red Lake, Ontario was the winner of the 2014 RBC Award for Glass.

The Dark Room 3.0: a crowd-sourced, group exhibition celebrating alternative process and analog photography in the digital age

Come to 918 Bathurst on Thursday April 24 from 12 noon to 11 pm to vote for your favourite works from our selection of submissions for The Dark Room 3.0!
The Dark Room 3.0 is an Open Exhibition of the Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival, showcasing and celebrating the art of analog and alternative process photography.
We’ve gathered 150 works from emerging and established artists who are preserving the knowledge and practices of classic photography and testing the boundaries of this art form.  Processes on display will include 35 mm film, pinhole, uranotype, Polaroid, wet plate, silver gelatin, cyanotype, platinum prints and more!
Our Preview Celebration on April 24 will be your chance to decide which of these works get to be displayed during our official two-week exhibition from May 2-15! Artists selected for the two-week exhibition will be eligible for cash prizes and awards generously provided by our sponsors and partners.
