Development Coordinator

- (f) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations
Introduction
Akin is a Toronto-based arts organization that provides affordable studio space to over 300 artists in its 8 locations and programs roughly 60 arts-based events per year across the city. Akin is run by artists, and is dedicated to providing a working environment that maintains a friendly and inspiring atmosphere where people can work on creative endeavours and entrepreneurial undertakings of all kinds. Akin builds community through monthly art critiques, workshops, open studio events, gallery tours, exhibitions, as well as various other art projects.
Position
Akin is a growing organization with several expansion projects underway ranging from large social enterprise initiatives to advocacy, to locating and securing new studio partners in Toronto. The Development Coordinator will assist Akin’s Development Consultant on current development initiatives, including sector research, creating reports and presentation materials, and managing communications between multiple project partners. In addition, the Development Coordinator will be responsible for managing the schedule and delivery of applications to various funders and foundations.
This position is an 8-week contract beginning on June 4, 2018. Compensation is $14.00/hour at 30 hours per week. The Development Coordinator may work remotely, but must commit to two 6-hour shifts at Akin’s King Street location (511 King st W) per week.
Responsibilities
Reporting to Akin’s Development Consultant:
- Research grant opportunities at the local, provincial and federal level and assist with application drafts and proposals;
- Collaborate with the fundraising committee to pursue opportunities for funding and sponsorship;
- Compile research and develop copy for various administrative reports and upcoming initiatives;
- Assist in the creation of a variety of development-related documents (packages, one-pagers, etc);
- Develop and interpret relevant statistical information and analysis;
- Prepare briefing notes and manage prospect list, documenting database actions;
- Day-to-day coordination to ensure projects are up to date and moving forward;
- Various related tasks as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate:
- Is currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program in a field related to culture, with a specific interest/experience in social enterprise and creative placemaking
- Possesses excellent administrative, communication, verbal and organizational skills;
- Comfortable working with the Google suite;
- Experience in development and fundraising will be considered an asset;
- Has a knowledge and interest in contemporary visual art and art making practices;
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
- Has an entrepreneurial spirit, optimistic, enthusiasm and a sense of humor

The Programming & Sunrise Studio Coordinator will assist in Akin’s robust outreach and community engagement activities, representing Akin at various events and public programs across the city. The Outreach Coordinator will have a focus on increasing engagement in the neighbourhood and surrounding area of our Sunrise Studio in the east-end of Toronto, directly reporting to the Sunrise Studio Manager and other Programming Coordinators. Additional duties will include assisting with the management of the artist studio, including administration, providing tours, event logistics and general maintenance. Ideally, the candidate will be from the local area.

- Represent Akin publicly at events and programs across the city and assist with coordination;
- Assist with day-to-day operations of Akin’s studio at 100 Sunrise Avenue including tours, general maintenance and artist logistics;
- Compile research and develop an outreach and engagement plan for Akin Sunrise, including identifying potential partnerships and initiatives;
- Develop events specific to Akin Sunrise and the east-end of Toronto;
- Other studio and event/outreach-related tasks as assigned
