Saturday October 12th

12-5pm

Akin Queen East, 429 Queen St E

On October 12th, the doors will swing open to one of our newest and most exciting studios, Akin Queen East! Located at 429 Queen St E near Queen and Sackville Street, the studio is filled with over 60 ceramicists, painters, illustrators, writers, textile artists and more!

Participating artists will be displaying and selling their work, so be sure to come out to support this lovely community and perhaps find a piece of art to take home! If you’ve been thinking about joining Akin Queen East, this is the perfect time to come check it out. You can tour the space, meet the artists and learn more about the inner workings of this big, beautiful studio. There will be a casual creative activity for visitors who are feeling inspired and light refreshments provided.

This event will be in collaboration with our neighbours just a few doors down the street at The Lost and Found Project Space at 420 Queen St E. After you’ve visited Akin Queen East’s Open Studio, be sure to head over to The Lost and Found to check out the final day of the Nuit Blanche Independent Project, 1-800-INF-ERNO, by artists Micki-Lee Smith & Zakriya Bashir-Hill in collaboration with Diana Lawryshyn, Pratap Mathews & Yun Young Lee.

Image Description: To the left, a greyscale map highlights the locations of the Lost & Found Gallery and Akin Queen East, using their logos as markers. On the right, bold text reads "1-800-INF-ERNO" next to a graphic of a hand holding a retro black phone, with a building and flames in the background.

Akin is happy to have a supportive relationship with The Lost and Found Project Space. Its founder, Nurielle Stern, has graciously offered a 20% discount on kiln firing for Akin Queen East studio members! We’re so glad to have this connection, to support a fellow arts organization and to benefit our ceramics community.

"A cozy brick alcove at Akin Queen East, bathed in light from a skylight above. Soft pillows and lush plants in the background create a perfect, serene spot to sit and sketch. The text reads: 'Sit & sketch in this dreamy alcove!'"

In the coming weeks, we’ll be highlighting some of the incredibly talented artists working at this studio on Instagram @akinprojects, so stay tuned!

We hope to see you at the Akin Queen East Open Studio! No cost and no registration necessary. Drop-by between 12-5pm on Saturday October 12. We can’t wait to show you around and share the creativity of our incredible community!
